Trilogy wraps up $15 million East End project

Louisville-based Trilogy Health Services LLC has completed work on a $15 million project in eastern Jefferson County.

The 12-acre Forest Springs Health Campus is located at 4120 Wooded Acre Lane, near the corner of La Grange Road and Westport Road.

In April, we reported that Trilogy had completed work on the first phase of the new campus, with 12 independent-living villas and the main health center, which provides skilled-nursing services.

A second phase added 12 independent-living units, and a third phase added added 10 more, which received approval from the city building inspector last month, vice president of development Peter Massey said.

That’s a total of 34 independent-living units. Twelve of those are occupied, and deposits have been placed on eight others.

Massey said the campus is in a “great location in an underserved market when it comes to senior care.” He said the company would have built more homes there, but “we just ran out of land.”

Louisville-based DMK Development Group LLC was the contractor for the Forest Springs project. Ferdinand, Ind.-based Universal Design Associates Inc. provided architectural services.

The design of Trilogy senior care centers has evolved, which over the years. Massey said it’s important to update the models in response to patient feedback, because “what residents wanted 17 years ago, they don’t want today.” Seniors today, he said, want more privacy, fitness facilities and access to technology.

The Forest Springs health campus follows a model called “Village Center,” which gives more common space, an open main dining room and shortened hallways. It also has a putting green, ice cream parlor, beauty and barber salon, library and wireless Internet service.

This year, Trilogy Health Services added 15 projects to its portfolio, together valued at just over $170 million, according to Leslie Farr Knox, vice president of communications, social media and creative services.

With its recent acquisition of the Extended Care Facility at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg, Ky., which will be renamed The Willows of Harrodsburg, Trilogy now has 97 senior communities across Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky. Leadership expects to hit the 100 mark in early 2016, Knox said.
